Evolution of Security: Applying Security by Design Principles
As organizations move to a DevOps-based model of IT delivery, there is an opportunity to evolve security by applying AWS Security by Design principles.
Security by Design formalizes AWS account design, and automates security controls while providing streamlined auditing. SbD provides a proactive approach to security control by building it in throughout the AWS IT management process.
Using AWS CloudFormation templates, security and compliance in the cloud can be made more efficient and expansive.
RentACenter, a public furniture and electronics rent-to-own company based in Plano, Texas, wanted to ensure that AWS security best practices were strictly and consistently followed.
The retailer partnered with Flux7 Austin DevOps consultants which enabled them to take the Security by Design principles and start implementing them with Flux7’s security first framework.
By applying these principles and approach across IT projects —starting with its Acceptance Now business unit which supports "store within a store" partners - the company is assured that AWS cloud security standards are consistently met.
Flux7 AWS consultants were also instrumental in helping enable DevOps philosophies within the organization.

Founded in 1986, Rent-A-Center (RAC) has more than 4,285 retail locations across 50 states, Washington, D.C., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Its stores offer people an easy, affordable way to furnish their homes without incurring a continuing obligation and without needing access to credit. RAC also has a store within a store concept where customers at Ashley furniture or hhgregg, for example, have an option to rent to own if they don’t qualify for store credit. RAC sought to launch a new portal to facilitate this process for its in-store partners, including everything from the shopping cart to the application and final purchase ticket.
